Remember Wanting to Dance With This Guy?

If you don't, you've never seen Urban Cowboy.

I was 13 and my mom and her baby sister were about to pop
it into the VCR and I BEGGED to watch it.

I remember watching them dance around Gilley's. FUN! FUN!

I wanted to learn to dance like that, so I did.

Only problem was teenage boys DID NOT know how to
dance like that.

Bummer!

Fast forward 25 years................

My 14 year old son walks into the kitchen,

"Hey, Mama", he said,"Did you know that there
is a Cowboy Prom at the State Rodeo Finals?"

"Yes. Why?" says I.

"Well,Uhh, I don't know how to dance." he says.

"And?" I said.

"Could you teach me?"

" Sure", I said,"What do you want to learn to do?"

"All of it."

So that's what we are doing this weekend!

Breaking out the George Strait, Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, and the
Jason Aldean.

We are moving the table out of the kitchen and turning it
into a dance floor.

I've even got a disco light!

Caleb, Eden, Kyle, Hannah and Whoever happens to drop by will
be learning to Two-Step, Shuffle, Freeze, and Cotton -Eye Joe.

Maybe I can get Stacy to put on a black cowboy hat and lean against
our bar with a long neck in his hand.

I'd even let him call me"Sissy".

Peace.

  2. That is awesome!!! I love to country dance!! Man why can't we live closer together; we have so much in common! Have fun teaching him. Maybe I'll add that to my curriculum when they are older...

  3. I only learned a couple of those dances.
I think it is just precious that your teenage boy wants you to teach him. I don't know many 14 year old boys that would ask their momma something like that.
Goes to show you, you did something right.

  5. My husband said that to make him happy you'd have to play "The Sound of Silence"....literally.

I thought that was pretty clever! :)

Hey- I want to learn to Cotton-Eye Joe too!!! Learning to Country-line dance has been a goal of mine for awhile! I'm a strange one! (But, hey, you make me feel normal!!)
