After Halloween
I hit the clearance sales to buy "period" costumes for days like these.
The girls are on a "Little House on the Prairie" kick and they want to dress up.
Today
they informed me that they needed" to go and gather eggs".
They "need money to buy fabric to make new dresses".
Carrie has a bucket and "Laura carries the basket because she is older".
Carrie doesn't mind because "me has eggs ,too".
They decided that they needed to "pick some flowers for Ma ".
A few little violets here and there , some dandelions and
maybe a wild onion or two.
As many as you can fetch.
Then it's off to "Olsen's Mercantile to trade the eggs for
fabric and white sugar".
I think that was well worth the $8 I spent for each of these costumes....
Kids are fun.

AWWW how sweet is that!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are very precious and you captured the sweetness of it so well
My girls did the same thing for several years. My mom made them outfits, they carried buckets and wore bonnets. They even wore my mom's old 80's glasses with no lenses in them to be "Mary before she was blind." They would wear those outfits all day. I eventually didn't make them take them off when we went to the grocery store and Target, etc. At the time I still had insecurities about homeschooling and didn't want people thinking I was a freaky-weirdo homeschooling mom so I would make sure that at least I looked hip and cool and not so, well, 1800s! I made sure I was wearing my nice cool mama clothes, plenty of makeup on, and definitely lipstick. I don't know which was funnier, my girls walking around Target as Laura and Mary or my insecure self actually caring what someone at Target might think of me. Aahhh. Thankfully, I've grown out of that stage. But sadly, so have my girls... julia.
ReplyDeletePriceless!
ReplyDeleteOH JULIA!
ReplyDeleteGirl I do the same thing.
I REFUSE to buy a denim jumper....well
OK ..I may buy a denim jumper...But I REFUSE to wear it with bobby socks and white tennis shoes!
I use to laugh at my friends daughter who would wear dress up clothes to church...Over the summer Rachel & Mary wore Sleeping Beauty and Snow White costumes to Winn-Dixie.
They loved all of the attention and it really was kinda funny.
I love this age. I am going to miss it.
