I had the honor of meeting Miss Gerry almost 4 years ago.
She was doing some ironing for a friend and was looking to fill a day that she had open.
I had a husband who liked his shirts starched and she LOVES to iron.
No I am not kidding ...she LOVES to iron.
A Match Made in Heaven.
The first time she came to the house, she threw away my"SAD LITTLE IRON" and made me go to McRae's and buy a new one.
She won't use my ironing board . She brings her own.
I tried to get on Williams and Sonoma and buy another one, but she said that they "all looked rickety".
Miss Gerry had a birthday on Tuesday.
She turned 80 years old.
My children wanted to have a "Birthday Lunch", so I made 15 bean soup and biscuits and Hannah made her famous" Chocolate Fudge Bundt cake".
Add some candles, 5 kids, and you've got yourself a party.
She loves my kids and they love her.
She was the only child of a farmer, and she spends alot of time telling the kids stories of the days when she was young.
On cloudy days she will hear the roosters crow and she will tell the kids about the chickens on her home place, and how they would"Go get a chicken" for supper.
She sees the dispair on my face when I have had to scold one of my kids, and she reminds me that " you do right by your kids, when everybody else is scared to. You'll be glad when you are my age".
She is one of our most treasured family members and I am one of her biggest fans.
I cannot imagine life without her here.
I hope she has 80 more.
Happy Birthday, Miss Gerry!
We Love You!
Peace.
